Why Jesus?
It’s a very important and valid question!
How much time do you have?
Ecclesiastes 3:1&2 says, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven; a time to be born, and a time to die….” Time moves on and the sands of your life grow shorter with each breath you breathe.
Life Is Short!
God has also appointed a time to die. Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement.” Have you ever wondered when your life will come to an end? Proverbs 27:1 says, “Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” What if the sands of time came to an end in your life today? Where would you spend eternity?
We will all spend eternity somewhere!
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” II Thessalonians 1:8,9 says, “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord….”
Now is the time to be saved!
II Corinthians 6:2 says, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of salvation.” Consider these four truths today:
1. GOD SAYS THAT WE ARE ALL SINNERS
Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Isaiah 53:6 says, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way….” No one with an honest mind would refuse to admit that he is sinful. Compared to God, all have come short of His standard of righteousness. You, my friend, cannot be saved from sin until you admit, “Lord, I am a sinner.”
2. THERE IS A PENALTY FOR SIN
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death…” James 1:15 says, “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” This death is not a physical death alone. It is further described in the book of Revelation. Revelation 20:14 says, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.”
3. GOD DOES NOT WANT YOU TO PERISH
God has provided a way for you to escape the penalty of sin and be SAVED. He died for your sins on the cross. Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
4. THE DECISION IS YOURS RIGHT NOW
– Admit to God that you are a sinner and that you need God’s salvation.
– Repent…be sorry for your sins and turn away from them.
– Call upon Jesus Christ… Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
The Bible calls this being “born again.” It does not require church membership, morals, baptism, or any other good work. It only requires that you want to turn from your sin and trust Christ to give to you eternal life that you cannot earn. Ephesians 2:8,9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
